ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the importance of satellite communications and messaging systems in keeping merchant ships safe. It notes that satellite communication innovations and the Internet are becoming important tools for notifying merchant vessel crews on the dangers presented by modern-day pirates. It adds that early notification is important in aiding merchant ships avoid dangers areas where pirates are operating or places where there are recent attacks.
