ABSTRACT
The article reports that the U.S. Federal Reserve Board is considering changing its benchmark interest rate for setting monetary policy. The central bank may abandon the federal funds rate benchmark for one based on the interest paid on excess bank reserves. The federal funds rate has been extremely volatile since the start of the global financial crisis in 2008.
