The article looks at the use of auxiliary trading blotters by institutional investors to segregate selected orders that will be shown to block-trading venues. It mentions the blotter-scraping alternative trading systems (ATSs) of Liquidnet which have less liquidity to monitor. According to a survey of industry executives conducted by "Securities Industry News," at least a few very large institutions have bypassed Liquidnet's rules and commit all ATSs of their companion blotters.
