ABSTRACT
The article discusses the use of low-noise power transformers by Consolidated Edison (ConEd) to lower the noise levels in compliance to the New York City Noise Ordinance. The contributions that led to fulfilling the low noise levels of transformers are low core noise designs, the low load noise designs and the low cooling system noise designs. ConEd has revised noise restrictions for new power transformers including 15- to 20-decibel lower noise level and significant overload requirements in a maximum of 200 percent.
