ABSTRACT
The article discusses and analyzes the reasons for erecting the Great Wall of China and the Berlin Wall in Berlin, Germany, which demonstrates that both grew from political, historical, geographical, cultural, and economic circumstances. It is suggested that this article provides a beginning for analyzing the arguments for and against the proposed border fence at the United States and Mexico border. The legal battles involving the University of Texas at Brownsville, Texas and Texas Southmost College with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, in which the proposed fence would cut off hundreds of acres of their joint campus and contradict the mission of higher learning which is to bring cultures together, are discussed.
