ABSTRACT
The article offers a look at the efforts of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and healthcare companies in the U.S. to develop surveillance systems in order to better understand the H1N1 flu virus and its implications. CDC selected GE Healthcare to provide extensive surveillance data for H1N1 and seasonal flu activity in the country. It also employed Cerner Corp., SDI Health and the Distribute project to survey flu-like illnesses across the U.S.
