China may be next Desiro customer

The article reports on the possibility for Siemens Mobility to secure an order for around 50 suburban trainsets in Guangzhou, China after it has tendered a version of its Desiro product platform. Siemens and its rivals are hoping to secure an order of up to 1,500 trainsets. On the other hand, Ansgar Brockmeyer, president of Public Transit Rolling Stock, believes that Siemens will close a trainset deal with Russia before the year 2009 ends. The trainsets will operate in the Black Sea port of Sochi, Russia which will host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
