ABSTRACT
The article reports on the move of Pennsylvania to apply for stimulus money to layer a 150 megabytes per second (Mb/s) network over the public-safety network that commercial carriers could utilize for expensive middle mile transport into the rural regions in the northern part of the state. According to Charles Brennan, the state's deputy secretary for public-safety radio, the state would only offer such middle mile access to locations without investments made by commercial providers. The multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) is also discussed.
