ABSTRACT
The article reports on the Standard & Poor's 500 Index of stocks for 2009. Seven of the weakest 10 performances on the list came from banks. The worst were Marshall & Ilsley Corp., Huntington Bancshares Inc., and Citigroup Inc., all of which lost more than 50% of their value during the year. Defaults on real estate loans were blamed for most of the decline.
