ABSTRACT
The article reports on the workshops led by artist Barry Thomas, the Thames School of Mines and a New Zealand Historic Places Trust' committee which enabled the schoolchildren to do hands-on research for their community's heritage. It notes how the Thames South School pupils artistically expressed the Maori culture. It also features the statement by School of Mines curator John Isdale and Thames South deputy principal Jeannie Apthorp on the impacts of the workshops.
