ABSTRACT
The article reports on the plans of cable operators, telecommunication companies and other service providers to replace set-top boxes with gateway devices and to use video over Internet Protocol. It mentions the Comcast Corp. plan to replace cable modems and EMTA's with gateways as well as the Time Warner Cable's plan to replace STB's. Sunflower Broadband chief operating officer (COO) Patrick Knorr states that the gateway can put more processing power and memory capacity than five set-top boxes.
