ABSTRACT
The article reports on the move by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to postpone the implementation of new rules for its Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS) until April 5, 2010. The new rules allow Medicare to reject claims for services or supplies by physicians not enrolled under PECOS. CMS states that the delay will grant a grace period to health care professionals during which they can enroll or re-enroll in Medicare. CMS arrived with the decision following the concerns raised by medical groups.
