Using a double-side fabrication method, a stack of intrinsic Josephson junctions plus a bow-tie antenna and chokes were made in a slice 200 nm thick and singled out from inside a bulk Bi[sub 2]Sr[sub 2]CaCu[sub 2]O[sub 8+x] single crystal. The junctions in the fabricated stack were very uniform, and the number of junctions involved was rather controllable. Potentially it would be possible to use this method to fabricate integrated circuits based on intrinsic Josephson junctions in high T[sub C] superconductors. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Terahertz radiation from the mesa structures of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ is detected in samples with thin electrodes <100 nm. In samples with thick electrodes ≃400 nm, neither radiations nor voltage jumps in current-voltage characteristics are detected. This suggests that the thin electrode...

We report on the electrothermal behavior and the terahertz emission properties of a stand-alone Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 intrinsic Josephson junction stack contacted in a three-terminal configuration. One terminal is used as a collective ground while the other two, contacting the stack from its right and...

Single-crystal whiskers of Y1Ba2Cu3Ox with a length of about 5 mm were grown from a Te-doped precursor. The optimum nominal composition of the precursors was Y2Ba3Cu3Te0.5Ox. We have developed a technique to observe the intrinsic Josephson effect in BiSrCaCuO (Bi-2212) single crystal whiskers. In this technique, a raw Bi-2212 single crystal whisker used as intrinsic Josephson junctions (IJJs) along the c-axis. The technique is simple, quick, and less-cost processing....
