ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the importance of product function and versatility to increase sales on sporting goods for the holiday seasons in the U.S. Dan Butler, vice president of merchandising and retail operations for National Retail Federation (NRF), cites that profitability of discount stores reveal the shying away of consumers from higher-priced luxury products. He further suggests that sporting good retailers need to implement customer service strategies to be able to sell in a recession.
