ABSTRACT
The article focuses on a randomized controlled trial (RCTs) to study whether positron-emission tomography combined with computed tomography (PET-CT) is better than conventional methods for preoperative staging of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The study was conducted on 189 patients from 18 to 80 years with newly diagnosed or highly suspected NSCLC. The study concluded that preoperative staging reduced futile thoracotomies more than conventional staging.
