ABSTRACT
The article focuses on ectomycorrhizae (EM) and arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM), the two most important kinds of mycorrhizae for New Zealand tree species. Mineralisation process involves the release of nutrients in mineral form through the break down of organic compounds by soil bacteria and saprophytic fungi. It notes the advantage of EM species in environments with slow nitrogen and phosphorus mineralisation rates. Particular focus is given to the implications of mycorrhizal differences for fertiliser management.
