ABSTRACT
The article features volunteer driver Kathy Broussard, who formed the nonprofit organization Houston Ground Angels and Pilots that helps transport patients to their medical appointments free of charge. Broussard decided to form the organization after she met cancer patient Eva Tovar in 2001 and knew through Tovar that there are many patients who are not able to come to their medical appointments as they cannot afford the transportation expenses. Houston Ground Angels and Pilots has more than 200 drivers and more than 50 volunteer pilots.
