ABSTRACT
The article reports on the study conducted by the Government Accountability Office GAO to the Department of Justice's Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) on their methods used for cost estimation for its annual budget. It notes that BOP use the three steps, including costs increase estimation, projecting the population of inmate and costs of new programs. Moreover, GAO recommended the BOP to hold an analysis to quantify the operational costs and improve its documentation of their estimated costs.
