The article discusses a proposal to create an accessible repository of market data with the aim of regulating risk. Data is traditionally managed at business line level, giving a misleading view of overall market, credit and collateral risks. The Enterprise Data Management (EDM) Council has enlisted the cooperation of approximately 60 Wall Street executives, academics and financial analysts to establish the National Institute of Finance, which will collect data from the back offices of major institutions on a daily basis to assess overall risk.
