ABSTRACT
Discusses the Northeast Interstate Dairy Compact, which is supported by Vermont Senator Jim Jeffords. Information on the operations of the U.S. dairy industry under a socialist system that rewards inefficiency; Purpose of the system to ensure that each region in the U.S. has locally produced milk; Report that the Dairy Compact seeks to assure the continued viability of dairy farming in the Northeast; Assurance to the consumers of an adequate, local supply of pure and wholesome milk; Fact that the Dairy Compact survives because its benefits accrue to a well-organized minority while its costs are borne by a diffuse and largely ignorant public; View that ending dairy socialism would put inefficient farmers out of business.
