The article focuses on a study which examined the effect of enoxaparin on monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP-1) levels in a specific population with highly accelerated atherosclerosis, such as patients undergoing maintenance haemodialysis (HD). Enoxaparin is a low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) with pleiotropic effects. The researchers used enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits from R&D Systems Inc. to determine plasma MCP-1 levels in seventeen HD patients.

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from bacteria can accelerate and exacerbate lupus nephritis (LN) and induce infiltrating inflammatory cells in kidney in animal models. Pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) is known to exert anti-inflammatory effects. Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1) is...

Background TREM-1 (triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells), a receptor expressed on neutrophils and monocytes, is upregulated in sepsis and seems to tune the inflammatory response. We explored the expression of TREM-1 at the gene level and on cell membranes of monocytes and association...

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) and atherosclerosis share common vascular risk factors such as arterial hypertension and hypercholesterolemia. Adipocytokines and CD34+ progenitor cells are associated with the progression and prognosis of atherosclerotic diseases. Their role in AD is not...

Purpose: The lifespan of maintenance hemodialysis patients is reduced mainly because of cardiovascular complications due to accelerated atherosclerosis and impaired angiogenesis. We aimed to compare the effect of unfractionated heparin (UFH) and enoxaparin used as anticoagulants during...

Background: Although symptoms of infection caused by cytomegalovirus (CMV) in healthy adults are generally mild, the virus is known to produce severe symptoms most often in immunocompromised patients. Patients with chronic renal failure are prone to CMV infection. CMV, as a nosocomial infection...

Background: Hbs-Ag positivity rates in dialysis patients correlate with endemicity in the general population. There is a subset of patients with occult HBV infection that defined as the presence of detectable HBV-DNA by PCR in patients who are negative for Hbs-Ag. We decided to detect the occult...
