The article discusses possible consequences of regulatory reforms proposed by the U.S. Treasury Department that would place GE Capital under the supervision of the Federal Reserve. The Fed's more demanding standards for liquidity and capital could persuade parent firm General Electric Co. to divest itself of GE Capital.
