ABSTRACT
This article features two of the ships that made up the flotilla to commemorate the 1609 voyage of Henry Hudson up the Hudson River in New York. The Half Moon ship was used by Hudson to explore the New World. Hudson discovered the river during his search for a passageway between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The Onrust ship was created by merchant ship captain Adriaen Block and his crew when their ship was destroyed by a fire while sailing up the river.
