The article discusses third-quarter, 2009 earnings for Societe Generale SA. Net income of $627 million comfortably exceeded analysts' expectations. The firm's corporate and investment-banking operations generated a profit of almost $196 million. Revenue from fixed-income securities and commodities also showed healthy growth.
