ABSTRACT
The article offers information on a research which examines the Department of Labor (DOL) Black Lung Benefits (BLB) program conducted by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) in the U.S. GAO stresses that despite some claims that BLB is considered as a significant source of black lung compensation for coal miners, problems are arising on how they can pursue with their benefit claims. The article also provides an overview of BLB and recommendations on how to improve its effectiveness.
