ABSTRACT
The article reports on the study conducted by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) on the role of the Treasury Inflation Protected Securities (TIPS) program in addressing challenges of debt management. It states that the objectives of Treasury are to raise the rate of national savings and to reduce the federal government's cost of borrowing. GAO recommends that the secretary of Treasury should continue to review the compositions of the TIPS program.
