ABSTRACT
The article presents the quarterly equine disease surveillance report for April to June 2009, prepared by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the Animal Health Trust and the British Equine Veterinary Association in Great Britain. It includes the results of virological testing and data on equine diseases. It discusses the importance of virus lineage in outbreaks of West Nile virus. Cases of equine herpes virus type 1 (EHV-1) that have been diagnosed are discussed.
