ABSTRACT
The article discusses the new self-audit policy of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to encourage business owners to make a clean start at their facilities. Under this policy, a voluntary self-audit of a facility must be done within nine months from the date of acquisition. Conditions to be eligible for a reduction of the gravity portion of the civil penalty are given. Business owners are still liable for the economic portion of the civil penalty.
