ABSTRACT
The article discusses the proposed Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) known as External Confirmations, proposed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPAs) that would supersede SAS -67 in the U.S. The proposed SAS is noted to have stated that the confirmation includes auditor's direct access to information held by the third party. Investigation is indicated to also being required from the auditor in determining whether exceptions are indicative of misstatements.
