ABSTRACT
The article reports that a jury in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has ordered drug maker GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) to pay 2.5 million U.S. dollars to the family of 3-year-old Lyam Kilker, who was born with serious heart defects allegedly due to the antidepressant paroxetine that his mother took when she was pregnant. It reports the increasing trend of antidepressant prescription during pregnancy, particularly in the U.S., where 13 per cent of pregnant women took them in 2003. GSK has denied that its drug was the one responsible for Kilker's defect.
