Jobless applicants win retail roles

The article reports on the plan of retailer John Lewis to take on long-term unemployed individuals in its new stores. Suzy Welby, John Lewis government initiatives manager, say that they are working with Jobcentre Plus on local employment partnerships and that they have chosen the firm because it is really taking it time to learn the business and its needs. She adds that the reason that they are doing this is because there are a million people who are unemployed and many of whom has the skills that they want and that is a group they cannot ignore.
