An Explosion Prompts Rethinking of Twitter and Facebook

The article discusses how social media network, particularly Twitter, opens up new possibilities in journalism as shown by people's coverage on Twitter of a building's explosion in Bozeman, Montana. After the explosion, witnesses of the incident had posted photographs, described in detail the scene and shared emergency information on Twitter. The author notes that the value of using social media is found in its ability to facilitate meaningful conversation with users. The traffic from Facebook to NewWest.Net increased by more than 350 percent and traffic from Twitter rose by more than 800 percent.
