The article discusses how crystal oscillators found in most radios work. Crystal oscillators translate mechanical resonance created by piezoelectric resonators such as quartz crystals into an electrical oscillation. A brief historical background on the discovery and early applications of piezoelectricity is offered. The Harris 800 MHz MASTR II repeater is used as an example to show how crystal oscillators work.
