We demonstrate experimentally the extreme ultraviolet supercontinuum in the plateau of high-order harmonic emission from the argon gas cell driven by a 6.5 fs, 800 nm phase-stabilized laser pulse. The result is interpreted as a selection of single quantum path of the returning electrons due to the propagation process in the gas cell. Moreover we predict the possibility to generate isolated 100 as pulses using a driving laser pulse longer than 2 cycles.

Abstract. This paper presents an experimental technique for measurement of the contrast ratio of ultrashort UV pulses. As a multiple-shot device based on the scheme of difference frequency generation this is, to our knowledge, the only cross correlator in the UV so far, which offers a dynamic...

Soft x-ray spectra (40-180 Å) produced by the interaction of 25 fs laser pulses at an intensity of ∼7x10[sup 16] W/cm[sup 2] with a cryogenically cooled Ar gas jet have been measured. New spectral lines from Ar[sup 8+] and Ar[sup 9+] charge states appeared with decreasing gas...
