ABSTRACT
The article discusses a study performed by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) about the termination of complex plans with insufficient funds by Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. (PBGC). GAO suggests that the company should develop a more strategic approach for processing complex plans in order to minimize overpayments, reduce delays and improve communication with participants. Information on how GAO performed the study is also offered.
