ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the Science and Technology Directorate (S&T), a part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which is responsible for developing cutting-edge technologies to understand the threats to the country and to counter them. S&T research can be categorized in six portfolios including explosives, biological weapons and behavioral sciences. The research programs are aimed at improving the nation's safety and providing security against terrorism and disasters.
