ABSTRACT
The article describes a diesel engine that can utilize the best properties of diesel and gasoline fuel sources at once by blending the fuels within the combustion chamber itself. University of Wisconsin-Madison professor and engine research group leader Rolf Reitz explains the fast-response fuel blending technique and how it changes the fuel properties. He also cites the programming of engine's fuel injection to produce the optimal gasoline-diesel mix based on real-time operating conditions.
