This section offers news briefs on U.S. health care systems. A web-based application called MONAHRQ to be launched in late 2009 will allow hospitals, health plans as well as public and private health organizations to collect hospital discharge data. U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden announced the allocation of 1.2 billion U.S. dollars in federal stimulus funds for hastening efforts in setting up electronic medical records through regional extension centers who will provide technical assistance to providers wishing to modernize their medical records systems.
