ABSTRACT
The article discusses the Mannahatta project of landscape ecologist Eric Sanderson in recreating what was Manhattan in 1609 though the copy of an 1872 British Headquarters map. The information found by Sanderson was converted to geo-referenced images of hills and streams which matched the landscape of present day Manhattan. Also noted is the completion of the Mannahatta project in time for the celebration of the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial when the maps will be exhibited at the Museum of the City of New York until October 12, 2009.
