The article focuses on the development of soft-X-ray lasers perceived as useful for scientific and technological applications as discussed at 2009 SPIE Optics and Photonics conference in California. It notes that the soft-X-ray lasers are characterized with short wavelength, high coherence and high proton energy, which make it different from the ultraviolet (UV) laser light. Moreover, it mentions that there are several approaches in the making of a soft-X-ray laser including X-ray generation.
