ABSTRACT
The article reports on the study regarding the use of diabetes drug metformin in fighting cancer in the U.S. It states that cell culture and animal studies reveal that the drug can kill cancer stem cells and can delay tumor recurrence when combined with doxorubicin. According to senior author Kevin Struhl, metformin is a unique drug that targets cancer stem cells because of its metabolic and toxicologic profile.
