ABSTRACT

With the first nine on the grid starting with the option tyre, the event had a closely fought race between winner Jamie Whincup and runner-up James Courtney. In a stroke of fortune for the championship leader, rivals Will Davison, Garth Tander and Craig Lowndes all succumbed to mechanical problems thereby greatly increasing Whincup's prospects of winning.
