Calkins and her mom started the campaign when her brother-in-law was diagnosed with brain cancer and need help. To raise money, they made pizza sale and had a cut-a-thon, wherein a beauty shop gave them the store for the day and people got a haircut acted as a donation. In three years they were able to raise 30,000 U.S. dollars.
