The article addresses the demand for buy-side advisers within the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) market. According to Robert W. Baird, global M&A market declined 26 percent in 2008, with domestic deals dropping 18 percent and Asian deals dropping 35 percent. Sven Kins, managing director with Cook Associates' M&A Advisory Services, claims that more competition is expected in the form of sell-siders adopting buy-side mandates. The author emphasizes that the buy-side mandate differ from traditional sell-side advisers might be used to.
