ABSTRACT
Angular distribution of hard x rays that are generated by focusing a femtosecond (41 fs) laser with a power density of 1.3x10[sup 17] W/cm[sup 2] onto a copper target was studied. The total x rays over an energy range of 4-20 keV, which were mainly assigned to bremsstrahlung, showed forward emission particularly at s-polarized incidence and the characteristic x rays (Cu Kα emission) were almost isotropic. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
