This article reports on the all-cash buyout offer made by Vista Equity Partners to SumTotal Systems, a Californian software developer. Vista the largest stockholder of SumTotal with a 13% stake. According to Vista's Robert F. Smith, the position of SumTotal as a standalone public firm is highly precarious and subject to significant risk and uncertainty. The shares of SumTotal increased by over 45% in value.
