The article focuses on the condition of the motion picture industry in Hong Kong, China since 1997. It offers a historical account on the condition of the motion picture industry in 1980s wherein internationally high-profile films have managed to combine both quality and commercial success. It mentions several creative personnel in the industry who were attracted to work in the U.S. such as Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh, and Jet Li. Moreover, the factors behind the bleak perspectives on the country's motion picture industry such as the government's mishandling of the health crises, inadequate management of the economic depression, and political blunders.
