The article informs that AB 496, a bill requiring tire dealers to provide tire age information on sales contracts, has been withdrawn by its sponsors a day before California Senate Committee was to hold a hearing on it. Proponents of the bill say that providing tire age is necessary to protect the safety of motorists who might otherwise drive on aged and unsafe tires. However opponents say that the bill would have put tire retailers at a significant competitive disadvantage.
