ABSTRACT
Examines the near-band-gap Franz-Keldysh electrorefraction in Al[sub 0.3]Ga[sub 0.7]As/GaAs/Al[sub 0.3]Ga[sub 0.7]As single-crystal thin-film Fabry-Perot structures. Role of modulators in optoelectronic processing; Employment of Franz-Keldysh effect to achieve absorption modulation; Determination of electrorefraction by the shift of Fabry-Perot peaks.

The improved approach for analysis of the thin film optical spectra exhibiting the interference fringes is presented. It is shown that, based on the positions of adjacent extrema, the interference order numbers can be easily identified allowing for determination of a model-free normal dispersion...

We propose a transparent conductor (TC) structure based on the combination of ultrathin Cu and Ti films. The conductive Cu layer becomes continuous, i.e., it reaches the percolation threshold, for thicknesses in the range of 5.5–6.5 nm. However, without any adequate countermeasure, such...

Stoney’s equation allows one to calculate the internal stress in a thin film deposited on a thick substrate from the curvature of the bilayer beam. The curvature measurement is thus critical in the bending beam method, which is based on this equation. When an optical technique is used in...

The optical constants n and k of lutetium (Lu) films were obtained in the 3-1800 eV range from transmittance measurements performed at room temperature. These are the first experimental optical constant data of Lu in the whole range. Thin films of Lu with various thicknesses were deposited by...

Optical nonlinearities of ZnO thin films, made by laser deposition, were investigated by the Z-scan method using a mode-locked femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser. The measured bound-electron nonlinear index of refraction γ and the two-photon absorption coefficient β at near-IR wavelengths show...

We study the optical response of a strongly anisotropic nonmagnetic material. As a first case, it is considered an anisotropic nonmagnetic thin film (medium 2) sandwiched between medium 1 of refraction index n1 and medium 3 of refraction index n3. As a second case, the anisotropic thin film and...

A novel azobenzene-containing fluorinated polyimide was synthesized. The nonlinear optical property and photoinduced birefringence of a polyimide thin film were investigated. Large third-order nonlinear refraction ( n2=−4.49×10−11 cm2/W) was observed in the polyimide thin film by...
