Introduces two modes of operation which combine the high yields of the high charge states obtained with batch mode productions with the high duty cycles obtained with continuous mode operations. Duty cycles and ion yields of ion beams produced via the leaky batch mode; Percent production of constant intensity ion beams and ion yields via the direct current batch mode.

Two new space charge compensation methods developed in IMP are discussed in this paper. There are negative high voltage electrode method (NHVEM) and electronegative charge gas method (EGM). Some valuable experimental data have been achieved, especially using electronegative gas method in O6+ and...

Plasma bubbles are created in an ambient plasma. The bubble is formed inside a cavity bounded by a negatively biased grid. Ions are injected through the grid and neutralized by electrons from either the background plasma or an internal electron emitter. The external electron supply is controlled...

18GHz microwave has been fed to the LECR3 ion source to produce intense highly charged ion beams although this ion source was designed for 14.5GHz. Then 1.1 emA Ar8+ and 325 eμA Ar11+ were obtained at 18GHz. During the source running for atomic physics experiment, some higher charge state ion...

In order to drive an inertial fusion target or study high energy density physics with heavy ion beams, the beam radius must be focused to small radius and the pulselength must be greatly compressed.
